2006 - Sanyo Xacti HD1 720P HD

OK so I fell through the ice, I was not going to get this camera.. really I mean it. But then my brother in Norway asked me to ship one to him, and let me play with it for a few days... ARGH, done is done, its been a few days since I shipped it and yesterday I broke down and ordered mine from Amazon... one just gotta have this camera. (smile) Its NOT broadcast by any means, but under the right lighting conditions it delivers beautiful "near HD" video.

Almost everything I know about the Sanyo HD1 was learned on DVinfo

Here is a video I shot using the Xacti at the Regional Glider contest in California

Below is pictures of my fixes for the two most glaring omisions to the Xacti VPC-HD1 , namely the lack of a lens hood and the position of the power cable adaptor, which makes it impossible to mount the camera on a tripod while plugged into the power supply.

Xacti VPC-HD1 with accessory lenshood - this lenshood fits snugly on the camera and provide protection from sunlight. Please note that the lenshood is cut for widescreen use, it will show up in still images.
Lenshood for the Sanyo HD1 high definition tapeless video camera, the lenshood is made from 3mm birch plywood and very solid.
The lens hood alone, it is cut from 3mm model aircraft birch plywood and much stronger than one would expect.
BUY the LENS HOOD
Once I had figured out how to mount the hood on the lens, it was easy. and the result was predictable, The hood significantly reduces flare when shooting with the sun or a strong light source to the side or toward the front of the camera. and help increasing the contrast in the overall image, by reducing stray light in the dark parts of the image.
Xacti VPC-HD1 from another angle - notice the cables plugged into the camera through the tripod adaptor
Xacti VPC-HD1 with tripod adaptor mounted on tripod - connected to external power notice the cables from that Xacti VPC-HD1
Xacti VPC-HD1 with tripod adaptor, notice the cable access in the bottom - the tripod adaptor permits the camera to me mounted on a video tripod while at the same time be connected to external power.

This is my tripod adaptor, it allows the camera to me mounted to the tripod and at the same time be plugged into the power source, you can also plug in the video out cable if you want to monitor your recording on a larger screen while having the camera tripod mounted. You can paypal me to order the bracket for $40 plus S&H.
