Making a home made cable-release for the Digilux 3 Or "how to hook your Digilux to a external control" The rest of my
Leica page - and my panorama

I frequently use my cameras with either a motioncontrol or a timing device - either of these requires a cable to connect the camera to the device, so far my cameras have simply the open circuit to be closed, however when I plugged the Leica Digilux into the same system nothing happed. After breaking
open the original cable release I learned why, the release have 3
states, defined by resistance in the cable, Having mesured this I soudered together a set of resistors and managed to fit them inside the connector plug on the control device. It works. there is no need for the 5k but the 40k standby and the 2k seems to be required. See the diagram
above for the basic setup. you can easily do this with components
from RadioShack - note that the mini-jack is of the 4 terminal type,
the two inner rings are the shutter release. (the two front rings
are for video out) Naturally you can also easily make a home made cable release with this setup and a simple switch. |
